VW transmission woes in dragster

Hi we are restoring a really early rear engined dragster which is Ford Pinto powered running via a hewland adapter to an early type 3 IRS gearbox. The gear shift is at best described as agricultural! Any one got any ideas on alternative ways to get this thing shifting?

Do a little internet search for mid engine dune buggies and their shifters.... Maybe switch it over to a 094 trans (Bus side shifter) where you use a cable shifter?!?!?!

I know JAMAR did some but I don't if they are state of the art anymore....Jamar Performance Mid Engine Shifter Linkage Kit For Vw Transmissions - Dune Buggy Parts, Sandrail Parts, VW Parts - MooreParts.com

There was a guy doing a Hydraulic shifter for type ones in San Diego years ago that worked fantastic....

Maybe call a few trans shops for ideas
